I feel like they killed her off so that Osiris can somehow bring her back as one of like the "dark ghosts" or whatever you want to call the thing the Stranger has. Our Ghost does comment on it by saying that while it's not a Ghost it does feel similar

With the power of hindsight it’s very easy to see the complete 180 osiris takes when he gets corrupted by Savathun. He’s mad with rage right before going in, starts tracking the creature, and then we find him and he’s like “heyyy young wolf! And a new guy! Lets get out of here”
