  1. my theory is that ice is used as the catalyst for darkness. instead of being consumed by pure darkness, we channel it through ice; somewhat like a purification of the negative elements.

  2. Theory, since the the three subclasses we have now are considered light, they could simply do the same thing with the dark, and stasis is just one of three aspects. The other two might come in the witch queen and light fall.

  3. The darkness when it talked to us last week when we cleared out savathuns minions out of the tree with silver wings, it was asking us why we don't consider winter as evil because it kills everything that summer created so in order for it to seduce us it's using ice to make us consider that it's not evil just the natural order of things. @Blessious

  4. Typically stasis is a suspension of something, like life, time, etc.
The light is usually thought of as bright, good, and warm; and rightfully so.
The darkness should be the opposite of said light, being devoid of light and cold, which stasis EMBODIES!
I also think that there will be more classes of darkness to come, same as the light has 3 subclasses, so will the darkness.
( I acknowledge that this takes a lot of work, so I am not specifying a time-frame, but they said they are committed to bringing the story to the forefront, so darkness being equal to the light would make sense.)

  5. Judging by the sneak preview they gave at a charity livestream the gun wielded by the hunter is part of Europas destination loot.

Overall there is a mix of weapons from at least two weapon sets in this trailer, if I where to guess the other is the seasonal weapon pool.

  6. Void and ice are not "the darkness subclass". Void Light is an expression of the Light's power within the void of space. As Toland the Shattered teaches us, "The Traveller came out of the Void… therefore, we know the void is full of power." It's specifically called Void Light, the Light's power over atomic energy and sub-atomic chaos. The ice is a totally different thing. As far as I can tell, the ice is a "happenstance" of acquiring the power on a frozen world. And I am guessing we will get two more damage types, so that we have three Light types and three Darkness types. Something like, Solar/Void/Arc, and Stasis/Blight/Entropy or something.

  7. My guess is they are going for opposites. Ice or stasis would be opposite to the light’s flame or solar abilities. I think we will gain powers opposite of Arc and void eventually but only time will tell

  8. Stasis I don't think is THE DARKNESS. Same as Void, Solar, and Arc isn't THE LIGHT. We use The Light to channel the elements. So we are going to use the Darkness to channel Stasis I believe

  9. Light manipulates fundamental forces of known physics; The Strong Force (Solar), the Weak Force (Void), and the Electromagnetic Force (Arc). Stasis is basically heat death; it's a paracausal force disallowing basic heat transfer and high energy things from transferring energy, be it heat or kinetic energy, which generates ice. Basically, Stasis is Anti-Solar in function it looks like.

  10. I think the theory behind stasis being ice is the law of the 4 fundamental forces of the universe.

Strong Nuclear Force – Solar Element
    Gravitation – Void Element
    Electromagnetism – Arc Element
Weak Nuclear Force – Stasis Element

This does completely fit. Strong Nuclear Force as Solar is the governing body behind the creation of matter and is the strongest of the 4. Electromagnetism as Arc is self explanatory. Gravitation as Void is also easy to explain (look at Nova Bombs, one is literally called Singularity or the Devour Nova). That leaves Weak Nuclear Force as stasis, which governs the radioactive decay of subatomic particles.
It shows in the Supers. Solar Supers create physical objects out of energy, showing off the strong nuclear force (golden gun, dawn blade, hammers). Even in D1 it showed it off in Radiance, where a warlock could bring themselves back from the dead by rebuilding their body (I.e: creating matter).
Stasis seems to slow things down and freeze things, showing off the weak nuclear force aspect by decaying subatomic particles and their energy to effectively stop things in their tracks.
Props to Bungie for throwing real world science behind their element types.
(Soz, I’m a huge science nerd).
