Destiny Power Bars is a great site to help as well. It tells you if you should go for world drops or powerfuls on each character.

In your example of just being 1 below you could ultra hardcore and grind a playlist you’ve already gotten a powerful to get a random +1 drop! Great video, good to hone in the craft.

Between only crucible control and the powerful drop of the new grenade launcher I've gone up from 1200 to 1214. Only 281 games to go to hit 1250. Actually I'll keep track tonight to see how frequently I get a higher level drop

I took it in the shorts on one of my characters on pinnacles. all but one were a class item. it's ok have a few more characters to go
the balancing is the hardest part. pure RNG and takes a lot of time.
