This expansion was alright, if anything it focused too much on the new subclass and slept a little on the story

1:23:52 Fun fact, they originally were going to have Drifter during this mission, but they couldn't get his VA in to record due to Covid, so they had the idea to have Ghost imitate the Drifter. Nolan North's (Ghost's VA) initial impression of the Drifter was so spot on that they had to tell him to intentionally do it worse.
The really cool thing is that right now both the game and Shadow Keep, Beyond Light, and Witch Queen are all free to play until June 3rd. But all of the seasonal story content isn't available so you'd need to watch that. If either of you were to play what class do you think you'd pick? Titan, Hunter, or Warlock?

I think that's what the "voice in Darkness" wants out of its pawns, to choose prey of people's obsessions that will help aid in the goal of destroying the "Light Spawn". Same thing what it did to the three Hive siblings, it told them in light there is only death but in Darkness there is Salvation.
Perfect timing since we just got a Destiny vidoc for the last expansion of the Light and Darkness Saga today. Can't wait for you guys to continue with the story
39:27 – the Exo Stranger is training Eris regarding this power. There is some Lore text in the game that explains what could have happened with Eris without this training. It's pretty wild.
Edit: Just finished the video. The video doesn't really show it. But Clovis Bray-1's AI's interest in Banshee-44 has… Lets say.. big implications lore wise. Look it up at the risk of spoilers.
In Destiny 1 our character had a voice, but by Destiny 2 Bungie phased it out so characters could better reflect what we, the player wanted to imprint on our Guardian.
In Forsaken our Guardian spoke for the first time to vow vengeance on Uldren Sov with six new voices for every combo of Human, Awoken, Exo, Male or Female
Afterwards they reduced it to one male and one female voice, sadly, the Guardian speaks a bit more in Witch Queen and Lightfall but they're still very subdued and rarely show a lot of character.
When you were talking about the guy with a pogo stick, it looked like a Warlock using their jump to boost forward. 🙂
Yeah Clovis Bray is a monster, you’d have to read or do a lore recap of him but short version. His first attempts at making the Exo’s are horrifying. He also almost caused the vex to take over the sol system during the golden age, which would eventually lead him to becoming Banshee.
The dark future Elsie talks about is worth looking into as well, watch Byf or Evades video about it. Short version Elsie has travelled through time so many times because it always leads to the same outcome. Eris turns evil and controls the hive, half the vanguard is corrupted by darkness, Erimas the Cabal and the hive all of them destroy the last city, the Travaler leaves Earth. Years after the destruction of the city In a last ditch effort to save what’s left the remaining forces of Earth and the awoken find the traveler go and fight Eris and Elsie kills Anastasia. But the vanguard and awoken lose every single time, the traveler does something and Elsie ends up in the past and starts again. This is the first time things happen differently. Obviously there’s stuff I left out but it’s worth looking into the dark future.
I CANNOT WAIT for you two to watch The Witch Queen cutscenes. The general story of that dlc is much better than this one tbh

You not remembering the EXO stranger is also funny because Destiny's 1's base plot was really barebones and she literally is the "No Time to Explain why I have no Time to Explain" lady. I doubt Bungie really knew what they were doing with her up to this point but they found a way to fold her into the overall story as Elsie Bray. She's caught in a time loop. This is where Destiny's story kinda got back on track after being somewhat "aimless" for a long period between Taken King and Forsaken, but I feel like fleshing out the world is necessary it's hard to not feel like very little of consequence has happened since Oryx's death and Ghaul taking the Traveler (which was the incident that caused the Traveler to awaken and reveal itself to the Pyramid ships chasing it). Destiny 2's base story with the Red Legion is decent on its' own and has high production values, but aside from the Traveler's rebirth and the healing it did in Season of Arrivals most of it was just a "what are Guardians without the Light" and Osiris and Warmind are kinda their own things touching on the Vex and Rasputin but not the main threat. It's here that the "Light and Darkness" Saga as Bungie calls it begins (well technically it began in Shadowkeep) and Destiny finds its' footing.
Yeah so the "Voice in Darkness" is already open to a new replacement seeing how it easily put Eramis into actual superstasis. Still plenty of poor stranded souls crying out for "salvation".
The Exo Stranger's actual name is Elsie Bray.
Beyond light had mixed feelings when it released as it cut pretty much all the original content from the game. Remember all the stories before shadowkeep? All gone. They exist only in memory or any videos on the Internet. Ignoring the fact that almost all content was cut beyond light was an okay story that was fun yet tedious. Most missions were kill x amount of this enemy, except that enemy never spawned in. Stasis was fun to acquire except you gad to finish the story to get it permanently. The guns were fun, except all the ones you had beforehand all became useless because they got sunset. Annoyances aside this was one of the better stories as it went into the morals of the light and dark as well as how fractured apart the Eliksni (the fallen) people are. It also brought the guardian closer to the darkness and had everyone questioning what was going to happen to us. Eramis was a pretty predictable villain, but an interesting nonetheless. What many people collectively agree on was that this expansion suffered from the separation from Activision but thrived with bungies freedom. Two of my personal favorite parts of this expansion is the soundtrack and the raid: The Deep Stone Crypt. The soundtrack was beautiful and intense whenever it needed to be. The raid had the players going into the Deep Stone Crypt, which is the birthplace of the exo race, to stop the fallen from stealing and using golden age technology. Unfortunately it also meant we had to taniks for the 5th(?) time. Stasis itself was also an interesting concept because it isnt actually ice, its entropy. Being frozen by stasis is having all motion and energy basically deleted from your person including kinetic leaving you frozen. The ice crystals are more of an aesthetically pleasing side effect. And the final cherry on top was the final mission against Eramis. We didnt win by calling upon the light like we usually do, we won because we looked for the power within ourselves. Due to spoiler reasons i cant explain why thats important. Beyond light was an amazing experience hindered by some bad chiices but will always be 8/10 story for me.
Edit: the strangers little companion isnt a ghost its called a Pouka! Theyre adorable little therapy companions from either the golden age or neomuna (lightfall but dont worry it aint spoilers) I cannot say how much money id pay to have a Pouka instead of a ghost.
2:06:00 It's funny you guys mention Ana kinda filling the void of Cayde, because in the background lore shes been asked to replace him as hunter vanguard multiple times and refused due to her priorities with rasputin. I suspect someone you'll be meeting soon is going to be the one to do it eventually, by rights.

Funny thing about stasis is that it was insanely strong at launch before getting balanced then all classes got a refresh and stasis was left to rot
