In the months since the launch of Destiny 2 Beyond Light, there has been unrest on a massive level within the Destiny community. Per Bungie’s original timeline when they partnered with Activision, we would have seen Destiny 3 in Fall 2020 alongside the launch of next-gen consoles. After achieving their independence in January 2019, Bungie quickly decided that continuing to develop for Destiny 2 would be a better path, and pushed Destiny 3 out onto the far horizon. The question is, was this the right move? Was a clean slate perhaps what the community needs right now? In this video, we’ll dig in to the pros and cons of continuing on with Destiny 2 vs. starting fresh with a new game via Destiny 3. Hope y’all enjoy the analysis and let me know what you guys think!

Answering the thumbnail, YES 100%.
Continuing D2 imo was a huge mistake.
If they made a D3 they would've made more money and win/win for everyone.
But I guess they don't care and went the easy way out and even though they're making less money compared to making a brand new game with pretty everything new, they're still making good money so its just a win for Bungie but a loss for the player base.
Prolonging D2 with same old content specially calling out the D1 crap they're throwing and all the reskin crap is just lame. And the community has to eat that crap, whether we like it or not.
Like I said is a win for Bungie and a loss for the players, specially the loyal ones.
And not even mentioning the sunset terrible idea and mistake…that's on another level of bad.
I think it might be too early to tell. With D3 probably producing more hype, you're probably right, but considering we'd have to wait like 2 years to get it what if D2 gets the new innovations that D3 would've had by that time anyway? I'm probably just naïve in thinking this. The way they changed the game's engine to now allow for far quicker balance changes has already kind of reassured me in my thinking though. The content is suffering and the PVP has been suffering stasis was just the last straw for many, but I feel pretty confident that between now and whenever D3 would've launched we'll have a much better Destiny.
Plus with a D3 I don't want to have to wait for The Last Word to be re-re-released and have to grind for it again.
I feel like with Matter, they are getting right back into old habits, getting in bed with mega-conglomerates, and by the time it comes out, so many players will be burnt by Destiny, there will be one question; why should this new game Matter to me? How do I know they won't just abandon another long-term commitment once i gets too hard to reign in? I already feel that and the thing hasn't even had any public footage release.
I agree with literally everything but pc performance. I myself have a 1060 and a ryzen 2600 and get 80 fps. its the same for almost everyone ive lfged with but increase the fps with better components
I dont think they should have done 3. Hell they probably shouldnt have done 2. Would have been real cool to see destiny 1 just get built on and see where it went.
Yes they shouldve. I would stop playing then. After d2 is complete I'm done with destiny the franchise. It eats time and isnt rewarding to put the amount of time that I've put into it a 3rd time.
Yes. The game needs a new engine. This franchise needs a rebuild from the ground up.
Wah
Crazy thought, what if codename Matter is actually Destiny 3 and they’re simply making Beyond Light, Witch Queen, and Lightfall to allow proper development time for it?
All I know is that the seasonal content model is ass. It was a great idea, and I'm sure it's been raking in tons of cash, but it does nothing positive for this game.
$1 million != $1 billion
Totally agree
Sunset Luke Smith
Great vid. Overall I just feel like my time invested into the game isn't appreciated and that's fucked.
Bungle should have just kept adding to destiny 1
Bevor they took their "best" Employees to a new IP they should have first fix the first game to a state where it can be run and updated with fewer manpower without dissapointing the player base on a weekly basis.
404 money not found new players needed
Bungie definitely are masters of hype. They're also the people killing the game. Activision never was.
Bungie is Activision even tho Bungie split from Activision. Things never change.
Yeah I didnt want a D3 but when I heard Bungie is removing content that we paid for cuz the game is getting too big, I started wanting a D3.
Yes
No just add more stuff
I totally agree but i doubt they have the resources to build up a whole new game
Lol, you know nothing about the history between Activision and Bungie. Go check out Destinytracker on YouTube intervieeing Jason Schrier. Bungie had FULL creative control of Destiny and Destiny 2. Activision just provided the money. Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy were the reason D2 vanilla was trash.
Since Bungie has left Activision the content has been the most shallow its ever been. If it wasnt for Activision and their 2 studios Vicarious Visions and Highmoon, D2 would be a walking corpse. You dont even mention this in your video but instead praise Bungie for work they didnt even do.
Viarious Visions and Highmoon created Forsaken and the 3 seasons that followed. Bungie split with Activision because they made Bungie keep to their contract and make sure the game wasn't trash every year. It took Activision to save the franchise.
I would of loved a Destiny 3, but there's no way Bungo in its current form would of made it any good – I mean they can't even manage to make a decent expansion standing on their own two feet.
I'm afraid the focus is all on Matter and Destiny is going to die a slow death with Bungo squeezing as much cash out of it as possible. The only hope for Destony franchise is of they sell it off, I'd even take Ubisoft as they atleast put the effort in.
Of course fucking NO
Even though I haven't seen your twitch streams yet, I'm subscribing to this channel cuz you've got better logic and more brain cells. Good job.
This video is insanely charitable to Bungie. Halo was only a success because of Microsoft holding Bungie to development milestones. The one time they let up the reigns was for Halo 2, where Bungie over scoped the game with an insufficient engine and just bit off more than they could chew – which resulted in the game being remade in the year before release with help by another MS studio. Once Bungie parted with MS and went in with Activision, Activision made the same mistake with Destiny 1 that Microsoft made with Halo 2 – they left Bungie to their own devices. The result was a heavily over scoped game with an engine and tools that couldn't deliver (sound familiar? ) . The game was doomed and Activision stepped in and told them they weren't going to allow another 1.5 yr delay that they had already given them. So the game had to cleave 90% of its content and features and resulted in the MinViabProd that we have today. With D2, Bungie tried to make the game on a new engine so they didn't have to use the garbage engine and tools from D1, but that failed also along with other development problems and they had to use the old engine and make D2 in a year as well (not to mention EDZ was D1 content, Io was Mars content from the scrapped Vex Void expansion that never came after ROI, etc). Bungie is just not capable of what everyone thinks they're capable of without a strong Publisher partner like MS to keep them on track and delivering instead of wandering aimlessly and coming close to solutions only to fuck up and regress – which is the best description of developer leadership of this franchise as a whole through the present day.
Haha money printer go brrr
I’ve been saying the same thing for 2 years now.
Bungie decided to continue d2 so they basicly forced themselves to try and appease us. Its not working at all rn
Yes, a fresh start would have been fantastic. The state of D2 is a confused and cluttered mess with no proper narrative and crumby advancement system.
Don't put all their eggs in one basket, but might be a good idea to put enough eggs into the main bucket that feeds ya. I paid 70$, how about I get at least 30$ worth of content.
Did you just use HoW and ToO as bullet points to praise Chris? Isn't ToO like the most universally hated expansion? Also, HoW is legit the expac that made me quit D1 lol.
