Destiny 2 Beyond Light is an expansion for Destiny 2 just like any other new Destiny update. I thought it was going to be more of a Destiny 3 than a regular DLC, not sure why, and I appreciate any other opinions from others who bought Beyond Light. I still enjoy it, Beyond Light adds a decent bit of new content to Destiny 2… but I just expected something different I guess.

Me personally, I don't even look at the expansions with the hopes of them reinventing the wheel as much as it is adding more spokes to it and giving it a little shine to make it look nice. There's new stuff to do and it looks nice, for about a month or two and then you're back to how it was before the expansion. The game is pretty stagnant but like you said it's fun cause gun go boom and the scenery looks good while I do it.

I play Destiny 2 for the story. I really do. But, it's more than the story, it's the world and atmosphere… I just love the Destiny universe, and I know it pretty well. So, that's why. I'm already invested.

I thought that Beyond Light would also change Destiny 2… The name implies big changes are coming, but all we got was just more standard destiny 2. :/

You are, indeed, not the only one who thought Destiny was going to change. I thought that with the new expansion it was going to change everything. I thought "There's going to be stasis, and darkness and a new faction to fight and a new moon, this is surely gonna be a part of what Destiny 3 was going to be" and instead we just got Shadowkeep 2 but with new subclasses, a better story and a better moon. It was honestly disappointing but that was kind of my own fault for believing this was gonna be THE expansion that everyone would love. And to be honest I don't know why I continued to play Destiny, but something kept bringing me back. I don't play Destiny now, but when new stuff comes out I'll definitely check it. As a wise Dynabam once said in these comments, "We were all hoping we would get new destiny instead of just more destiny".

I keep buying the expansions, hoping that the things will be different. But I'm always so booooooored.

As a no life destiny player, I can confirm you are not alone, I don't know why I play the game either, I just do.
I've learned that if you don't have friends and can't figure out vague quest objectives with incredibly hard missions that you aren't prepared for… you will hate this game
Destiny 2 is essentially an FPS MMO, it might as well lean into that. Let more than 3 people group on the planets at a time. Have huge story decisions decided by players working together/against eachother to shove a % bar towards one side or the other.
Have you tried warframe? It's not really like destiny gameplay wise but has some similar themes and is pretty fun.

I think I really really really enjoyed beyond light but with all of the sunset weapons I kinda got bored after a while but now Im really enjoying it!
I stopped partway through the beyond light story, probably should go back and see how it ends, but after playing since the destiny 1 open beta, I felt like I was betraying who my guardian was in a very underwhelming way…
whats cool about skywatch being back is that all i did to max my light at launch was sit in skywatch for like an hour and shoot some things

Its the most confusing poorly designed game I've ever played in over 45 years. Still stuck on the steppes. No idea how to get past it. The game mechanics are brilliant though which is a shame.
The thing i hate about it is, you kill stuff and then they respawn. Wtf. Thats lazy poor gane design.
